oven-baked barbecue ribs

Posted on April 25, 2026 by Admin
Oven-baked barbecue ribs are a tender, fall-off-the-bone style rib dish cooked low and slow in the oven, then finished with sticky barbecue sauce. They’re a great way to get smoky, “grill-like” results without an outdoor smoker.

🍖🔥 Oven-Baked Barbecue Ribs

🧾 Ingredients

  • 2–3 lbs pork ribs (baby back or spare ribs)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp chili powder or cayenne (optional)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prep the ribs

  • Remove the thin membrane on the back of ribs (helps tenderness).
  • Pat dry with paper towels.

2. Season

  • Mix brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and chili powder.
  • Rub mixture all over ribs generously.

3. Wrap & bake (low and slow)

  • Preheat oven to 150°C (300°F).
  • Wrap ribs tightly in foil (you can add a splash of apple cider vinegar inside for extra moisture).
  • Place on a baking tray.
  • Bake for 2.5 to 3.5 hours until very tender.

4. Add barbecue sauce

  • Remove ribs from foil carefully.
  • Brush with barbecue sauce mixed with a little vinegar for tang.

5. Caramelize (final bake)

  • Increase oven temperature to 200°C (400°F).
  • Bake uncovered for 10–15 minutes, or broil for 3–5 minutes until sauce is sticky and caramelized.

🍽️ Serving ideas

  • 🥔 Mashed potatoes or baked potatoes
  • 🥗 Coleslaw for crunch and freshness
  • 🌽 Corn on the cob
  • 🍞 Garlic bread or dinner rolls

🔥 Tips for best ribs

  • Low and slow is key—don’t rush the first bake.
  • Foil keeps ribs moist and tender.
  • Broiling at the end gives that “sticky BBQ crust.”
  • Let ribs rest 5–10 minutes before cutting for juiciness.

🌶️ Variations

  • 🍯 Honey BBQ ribs (add extra honey to sauce)
  • 🌶️ Spicy chipotle ribs
  • 🍍 Hawaiian pineapple BBQ ribs
  • 🧄 Garlic butter BBQ fusion ribs

If you want, I can also give you a slow cooker rib version, an air fryer quick rib method, or a restaurant-style smoke flavor hack without a smoker.
