🧾 Ingredients

🍗 Fried chicken

  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Oil for frying

  • 2 cups white rice
  • 4 cups water
  • Pinch of salt

  • 3 tbsp chicken drippings or butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 2–2½ cups chicken broth
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder or onion powder

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Marinate chicken

  • Soak chicken in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for best flavor).

2. Coat chicken

  • Mix flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Remove chicken from buttermilk and coat thoroughly in flour mixture.

3. Fry chicken

  • Heat oil to 175°C (350°F).
  • Fry chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through (12–15 minutes depending on size).
  • Drain on paper towels.

4. Cook rice

  • Rinse rice and cook with water and salt until fluffy.
  • Set aside.

5. Make gravy

  • In a pan, melt butter or use leftover oil from frying.
  • Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes.
  • Slowly whisk in chicken broth.
  • Simmer until thick and smooth.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.

6. Assemble

  • Place rice on plate.
  • Add fried chicken on top or side.
  • Pour warm gravy generously over everything.
