🦑 Fried Squid

Fried squid is a crispy, golden seafood dish made from tender squid pieces coated in a seasoned batter or breading and deep-fried until crunchy. It’s popular as a snack, appetizer, or street-food style dish.

🧾 Ingredients:

  • 500g squid (cleaned, cut into rings or strips)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornflour (for extra crispiness)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika or chili powder (optional)
  • 1 egg (optional, for richer coating)
  • ½ cup cold water or soda water
  • Oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

👩‍🍳 Method:

1. Prepare squid:

  • Clean and slice squid into rings or strips.
  • Pat dry to remove excess moisture.

2. Make batter:

  • Mix flour, cornflour, salt, pepper, and spices.
  • Add egg and cold water to form a smooth, slightly thick batter.

3. Coat squid:

  • Dip squid pieces into batter until fully coated.

4. Fry:

  • Heat oil to medium-high heat.
  • Fry squid in small batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Do not overcook (it becomes rubbery).

5. Drain & serve:

  • Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • Serve hot with lemon wedges or dipping sauce.

🍽️ Serving ideas:

  • Garlic mayo dip
  • Sweet chili sauce
  • Lemon and herb dip
  • As a side with rice or salad

🌟 Tips:

  • Cold batter = crispier coating
  • Fry quickly to keep squid tender
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan

🦑 Flavor profile:

  • Crispy outside
  • Soft, tender inside
  • Mild ocean flavor with spices

If you want, I can also give you:

  • Salt & pepper squid (Chinese-style) 🌶️
  • Korean spicy fried squid 🔥
  • Or air-fried healthy squid version 🍽️
