These are a crispy, thin, snacky twist on classic onion rings—more like crunchy “onion crisps” you can eat by the handful.


🧾 Ingredients

  • 2 large onions (yellow or white)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornflour (for extra crunch)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika or chili powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup cold water or soda water
  • Oil for frying

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Slice thin

  • Peel onions and slice into very thin rings
  • Separate into individual rings
  • Pat dry (important for crispiness)

2. Make batter

Mix flour, cornflour, salt, spices, baking powder, and cold water until smooth and slightly thick.


3. Coat

  • Dip onion rings into batter
  • Let excess drip off

For extra crunch: you can lightly dust in flour before batter.


4. Fry

  • Heat oil to medium-high (170–180°C)
  • Drop small batches of rings
  • Fry until golden and crispy (2–3 minutes)
  • Remove and drain on paper towels

5. Finish

Sprinkle:

  • or peri-peri seasoning

Serve immediately for maximum crunch.
