🌯🧀 Beef and Cheese Chimichanga

A chimichanga is basically a deep-fried (or baked) burrito—crispy on the outside, cheesy and savory inside. This version uses seasoned beef and melted cheese.


🧾 Ingredients

Filling:

  • 300–400 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder or paprika
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • ½ cup salsa (or tomato sauce)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

Assembly:

  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • Toothpicks (to secure wraps)

For cooking:

  • Oil for frying (or use oven/air fryer option below)

👩‍🍳 Method

1. Cook the beef

  • Heat pan, cook onion and garlic
  • Add ground beef and brown it
  • Mix in spices and salsa
  • Simmer until slightly thick

2. Add cheese

  • Turn off heat
  • Stir in shredded cheese until melted and combined

3. Assemble chimichangas

  • Place filling in center of tortilla
  • Fold sides, then roll tightly
  • Secure with toothpicks if needed

4. Cook (choose method)

🔥 Deep fry (classic)

  • Fry in hot oil until golden and crispy (2–4 min per side)

🍳 Pan fry (lighter)

  • Shallow fry until crispy and browned

🧑‍🍳 Oven option

  • Brush with oil
  • Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 20–25 minutes

🌬️ Air fryer option

  • Spray lightly with oil
  • Cook at 180°C (360°F) for 10–15 minutes

🧀 Serving ideas

  • Sour cream
  • Guacamole
  • Salsa
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Hot sauce

You get:

  • Crispy golden shell
  • Juicy seasoned beef
