🌯🧀 Beef and Cheese Chimichanga
A chimichanga is basically a deep-fried (or baked) burrito—crispy on the outside, cheesy and savory inside. This version uses seasoned beef and melted cheese.
🧾 Ingredients
Filling:
- 300–400 g ground beef
- 1 small onion (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder or paprika
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- ½ cup salsa (or tomato sauce)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
Assembly:
- 4 large flour tortillas
- Toothpicks (to secure wraps)
For cooking:
- Oil for frying (or use oven/air fryer option below)
👩🍳 Method
1. Cook the beef
- Heat pan, cook onion and garlic
- Add ground beef and brown it
- Mix in spices and salsa
- Simmer until slightly thick
2. Add cheese
- Turn off heat
- Stir in shredded cheese until melted and combined
3. Assemble chimichangas
- Place filling in center of tortilla
- Fold sides, then roll tightly
- Secure with toothpicks if needed
4. Cook (choose method)
🔥 Deep fry (classic)
- Fry in hot oil until golden and crispy (2–4 min per side)
🍳 Pan fry (lighter)
- Shallow fry until crispy and browned
🧑🍳 Oven option
- Brush with oil
- Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 20–25 minutes
🌬️ Air fryer option
- Spray lightly with oil
- Cook at 180°C (360°F) for 10–15 minutes
