Posted on February 4, 2026 by Admin

Ohhh, raisin tea buns 🫖🍞 — cozy, old-fashioned, and perfect with a cup of tea. Soft inside, lightly sweet, and dotted with juicy raisins. Here’s a classic, easy recipe just like the traditional ones.

Old-Fashioned Raisin Tea Buns

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients
In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in butter
Rub cold butter into the flour mixture until it looks like coarse crumbs.
  4. Add raisins
    Stir raisins through the mixture.
  5. Add milk
Pour in milk (and vanilla if using). Mix gently until a soft dough forms.
  6. Shape buns
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pat to about 1-inch thick.
Cut into rounds or shape into small buns.
  7. Bake
Place on baking sheet and bake 15–18 minutes, until golden on top.
  8. Cool & serve
Best served warm with butter or jam.

Tea-Time Tips

  • Soak raisins in hot water or tea for 10 minutes for extra plumpness
  • Brush tops with a little milk or melted butter before baking
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for warmth

Perfect with tea, coffee, or just nostalgia ☕
