Honey garlic shrimp is a quick, glossy, sweet-savory dish that cooks in minutes and tastes like restaurant takeout.


Honey Garlic Shrimp

Ingredients

  • 500 g shrimp (peeled & deveined)
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup (optional, for extra glaze)
  • 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • Salt & black pepper
  • Optional: sesame seeds, chopped green onions

Instructions

1. Prep shrimp

  • Pat shrimp dry
  • Lightly season with salt and pepper

2. Cook shrimp

  • Heat oil in a pan on medium-high heat
  • Cook shrimp 1–2 minutes per side until pink and just cooked
  • Remove and set aside (prevents overcooking)

3. Make sauce

  • In the same pan, lower heat
  • Add garlic and sauté for 20–30 seconds (don’t burn it)
  • Add honey, soy sauce, ketchup, vinegar, chili flakes
  • Stir and let it simmer for 1–2 minutes until slightly thick

4. Combine

  • Add shrimp back into the sauce
  • Toss until fully coated and glossy
  • Cook another 1 minute

5. Finish

  • Top with sesame seeds and green onions

Tips

  • Don’t overcook shrimp—they turn rubbery fast
  • Dry shrimp = better sear and flavor
  • Add a tiny knob of butter at the end for a richer glaze
  • If sauce gets too thick, add a splash of water

  • In lettuce wraps for a lighter option
