Honey garlic shrimp is a quick, glossy, sweet-savory dish that cooks in minutes and tastes like restaurant takeout.
Honey Garlic Shrimp
Ingredients
- 500 g shrimp (peeled & deveined)
- 2 tbsp oil or butter
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 3 tbsp honey
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp ketchup (optional, for extra glaze)
- 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)
- Salt & black pepper
- Optional: sesame seeds, chopped green onions
Instructions
1. Prep shrimp
- Pat shrimp dry
- Lightly season with salt and pepper
2. Cook shrimp
- Heat oil in a pan on medium-high heat
- Cook shrimp 1–2 minutes per side until pink and just cooked
- Remove and set aside (prevents overcooking)
3. Make sauce
- In the same pan, lower heat
- Add garlic and sauté for 20–30 seconds (don’t burn it)
- Add honey, soy sauce, ketchup, vinegar, chili flakes
- Stir and let it simmer for 1–2 minutes until slightly thick
4. Combine
- Add shrimp back into the sauce
- Toss until fully coated and glossy
- Cook another 1 minute
5. Finish
- Top with sesame seeds and green onions
Tips
- Don’t overcook shrimp—they turn rubbery fast
- Dry shrimp = better sear and flavor
- Add a tiny knob of butter at the end for a richer glaze
- If sauce gets too thick, add a splash of water
