Baked potato

A baked potato is simple comfort food—crispy skin outside, fluffy inside, and a perfect base for toppings.


Classic Baked Potato

Ingredients

  • 2–4 medium potatoes (Russet works best, but any baking potato works)
  • 1–2 tbsp oil (olive or vegetable)
  • Salt
  • Optional toppings: butter, cheese, sour cream, yogurt, green onions, bacon, chili, herbs

Instructions

1. Prep potatoes

  • Wash and scrub well
  • Pat dry
  • Prick each potato a few times with a fork (prevents bursting)

2. Season skin

  • Rub with oil
  • Sprinkle generously with salt

3. Bake

Oven method (best texture)

  • Preheat to 200°C (400°F)
  • Place directly on oven rack or baking tray
  • Bake 45–60 minutes (depending on size)
  • Done when a fork slides in easily

4. Fluff inside

  • Cut a slit on top
  • Gently squeeze ends to open
  • Fluff inside with a fork

Classic

  • Butter + salt + pepper

Creamy

  • Sour cream or yogurt + chives

Cheesy

  • Melted cheddar + black pepper

Loaded

  • Cheese + butter + veggies + chicken or beef bits

Spicy

  • Chili flakes + hot sauce + garlic butter

Tips

  • Dry skin = crispier result
  • Don’t wrap in foil if you want crispy skin (foil makes it soft)
  • Bigger potatoes = better fluffy interior
  • You can finish in air fryer for extra crisp (5–10 min at 200°C)
