Nougat

🍬 Nougat

Nougat is a soft, chewy (or sometimes crunchy) confection made with whipped egg whites, sugar, and nuts. It’s sweet, nutty, and often used in candy bars or eaten as a dessert treat.

🛒 Ingredients

  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup roasted nuts (almonds, pistachios, or hazelnuts) Almond (commonly used in nougat)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: edible rice paper (for lining)

🔥 Step 1: Prepare the syrup

  • In a saucepan, combine sugar, honey, and water.
  • Heat over medium until it reaches soft-ball stage (around 115°C / 240°F).
  • Don’t stir too much—just swirl the pan gently.

🥚 Step 2: Whip egg whites

  • In a clean bowl, beat egg whites with a pinch of salt.
  • Whip until soft peaks form.

🍯 Step 3: Combine syrup and egg whites

  • Slowly pour hot syrup into the egg whites while mixing continuously.
  • Keep whipping until thick, glossy, and slightly cool.

🌰 Step 4: Add nuts and flavor

  • Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Fold in roasted nuts evenly.

🍬 Step 5: Set the nougat

  • Pour mixture into a lined tray (rice paper or parchment).
  • Flatten evenly.
  • Let it set for 4–6 hours or overnight at room temperature.

  • Cut into small squares or bars.
  • Dust lightly with powdered sugar if desired.
