Old Fashioned Goulash

Posted on April 27, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a comforting, budget-friendly Old-Fashioned Goulash (American-style)—simple, hearty, and perfect for a family meal:

🍲 Old-Fashioned Goulash

Ingredients:

  • 500g ground beef (qeema)
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth (or water)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning (or mixed herbs)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

👩‍🍳 Method:

  1. Cook beef:
In a large pot, cook ground beef with onion until browned. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  2. Add sauce & spices:
Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, broth, paprika, seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Add macaroni:
Mix in uncooked macaroni. Cover and simmer on low for about 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.
  4. Add cheese:
Sprinkle cheese on top, cover for a few minutes until melted.

🍽️ Serve with:

  • Fresh salad
  • Garlic bread or roti

🌿 Tips:

  • Add capsicum or carrots for extra nutrition
  • Use chili flakes if you like a bit of heat
  • It thickens as it sits—add a splash of water when reheating

⚠️ Note:

This is the American-style goulash, different from the traditional Hungarian dish like Hungarian Goulash, which is more of a paprika-rich stew without pasta.

If you want, I can also give you the authentic Hungarian version or a one-pot quick 20-minute version 🍝
