Scones without eggs

Posted on April 21, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple eggless scones recipe—light, crumbly, and perfect with tea or coffee.

🥐 Eggless Scones (Basic Recipe)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 2½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup cold butter (cut into cubes)
  • ¾ cup cold milk (plus a little extra if needed)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Optional add-ins:

  • Raisins or dried cranberries (½ cup)
  • Chocolate chips
  • Lemon zest

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Mix dry ingredients

  • In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

2. Cut in butter

  • Add cold butter cubes.
  • Rub in with fingertips until mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
  • (This step is key for flaky scones.)

3. Add milk

  • Pour in cold milk + vanilla.
  • Mix gently until dough just comes together (don’t overmix).

4. Shape dough

  • Lightly flour surface.
  • Pat dough into a thick circle (about 1 inch thick).
  • Cut into 6–8 wedges or use a round cutter.

5. Bake

  • Place on baking tray.
  • Bake at 200°C (390°F) for 12–15 minutes, until golden on top.

6. Serve

  • Best eaten warm with:
    • butter
    • jam
    • cream or honey

🫖 Result

These eggless scones are soft inside, slightly crisp outside, and perfect for a quick homemade bakery-style treat.

If you want, I can also give:

  • British-style authentic scones with clotted cream version
  • sweet vs savory variations
  • or 10-minute emergency scones using yogurt instead of milk
