Strawberry honeybun cake

🍓🍯 Strawberry Honeybun Cake

A soft, moist cake with cinnamon-sugar “honeybun” swirls and a sweet strawberry glaze. Think coffee cake meets strawberry donut vibes.


đź›’ Ingredients

Cake batter

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (or homemade vanilla cake batter)
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup sour cream (or yogurt)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Cinnamon swirl

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Strawberry glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp strawberry jam (or crushed fresh strawberries strained)
  • 1–2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prep the oven

  • Preheat to 175°C (350°F)
  • Grease a 9Ă—13 inch baking dish

2. Make batter

  • Mix cake mix (or homemade batter) with eggs, oil, sour cream, milk, and vanilla
  • Stir until smooth and thick but pourable

3. Cinnamon swirl layer

  • Mix brown sugar + cinnamon + melted butter

4. Assemble (this is the “honeybun” effect)

  • Pour half the batter into the pan
  • Drizzle half the cinnamon mixture over it
  • Swirl lightly with a knife
  • Add remaining batter on top
  • Drizzle remaining cinnamon mix and swirl again

5. Bake

  • Bake for 35–45 minutes
  • Toothpick should come out clean
  • Top will be golden and slightly crackled

6. Strawberry glaze

  • Mix powdered sugar + strawberry jam + milk + vanilla
  • Stir until smooth and slightly thick but pourable

7. Finish

  • Let cake cool 10–15 minutes
  • Pour strawberry glaze over warm cake so it soaks in slightly

🍽️ Serve

  • Warm or room temp
  • Best with tea, coffee, or cold milk

🍓🔥 Tips for best result

  • Don’t overmix swirl—keep ribbons visible
  • Use real strawberry jam for stronger flavor
  • Let glaze soak in for extra “gooey cake” texture
