Sausage balls

🧆 Sausage balls

Sausage balls are small, savory baked bites made from sausage, cheese, and a binding mix. They’re crispy on the outside, soft and cheesy inside, and often served as snacks or party appetizers.

🧾 Ingredients

  • 500g ground sausage (or sausage meat removed from casing)
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1½ cups flour (or biscuit mix if available)
  • 1 tsp baking powder (optional, helps light texture)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: chili flakes, garlic powder, dried herbs

👩‍🍳 Method

1. Mix ingredients

  • Combine sausage, cheese, flour, and seasonings in a large bowl.
  • Mix thoroughly (hands work best) until a thick dough forms.

2. Shape

  • Roll mixture into small bite-sized balls (walnut size).
  • Place on a lined baking tray.

3. Bake

  • Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 18–25 minutes.
  • Cook until golden brown and fully cooked inside.

4. Serve

  • Let cool slightly before serving (they firm up as they rest).

🍽️ Serving ideas

  • With dipping sauces (mustard, ketchup, ranch, chili sauce)
  • As party snacks or breakfast bites
  • With tea or coffee

💡 Tips

  • Don’t overmix or they become dense
  • Use sharp cheddar for stronger flavor
  • If mixture is too dry, add a spoon of milk; if too wet, add a little flour
  • Can be made ahead and reheated easily

⚡ Quick 3-step version

  • Mix sausage + cheese + flour
  • Roll into balls
  • Bake until golden

If you want, I can show you a spicy jalapeño sausage ball version, a breakfast-style version with eggs, or a low-carb keto version without flour.
