🍗 Chicken Parmesan (Crispy, Cheesy, Classic)
A comforting dish with crispy breaded chicken, rich tomato sauce, and melted cheese—great with pasta, bread, or even on its own.
Ingredients
For the chicken:
- 2 chicken breasts (halved to make thin cutlets)
- Salt & black pepper
- ½ cup flour
- 2 eggs (beaten)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
For the sauce:
- 1½ cups tomato sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt & pepper
Topping:
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Extra parmesan (optional)
- Fresh basil or parsley (optional)
Instructions
1. Prep the chicken
Pound the chicken lightly so it cooks evenly. Season with salt and pepper.
2. Bread it
- Coat in flour
- Dip in egg
- Coat in breadcrumb + parmesan mixture
Press gently so it sticks well.
3. Fry
Pan-fry in a little oil on medium heat for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
(You don’t need to fully cook it through yet.)
4. Make the sauce
Heat oil, sauté garlic briefly, then add tomato sauce. Simmer for 5–10 minutes. Season to taste.
5. Assemble
Place chicken in a baking dish, spoon sauce over each piece, then add mozzarella and extra parmesan.
6. Bake
Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 15–20 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
7. Serve
Garnish with basil or parsley.
Tips
- Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch
- Don’t overload with sauce or it can get soggy
- You can air fry the breaded chicken (180°C ~10–12 min) before baking
