🥩 Salisbury Steak (Classic American Comfort Dish)

Salisbury steak is seasoned ground beef shaped into oval patties, browned, then simmered in a rich brown gravy (often with onions and mushrooms). It’s hearty, simple, and very satisfying—usually served like a “budget steak dinner.”


🧾 Ingredients (4 servings)

Steak patties

  • 500g ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)

1. Make the patties

  • Mix ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  • Shape into oval “steak” patties (slightly thicker than burgers).

2. Brown the steaks

  • Heat a pan over medium-high heat.
  • Sear patties 3–4 minutes per side until browned.
  • Remove and set aside (they’ll finish cooking in gravy).

3. Cook onions & mushrooms

  • In the same pan, add butter.
  • Sauté onions (and mushrooms if using) until soft and golden.

4. Make gravy

  • Sprinkle flour over vegetables and stir 1–2 minutes.
  • Slowly pour in beef broth while whisking to avoid lumps.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer until slightly thickened.

5. Simmer patties

  • Return patties to the pan.
  • Spoon gravy over them.
  • Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through and tender.

  • Steamed vegetables 🥦
