Baked potato

Baked potato is a simple, comforting dish where a whole potato is cooked until the inside becomes soft and fluffy while the skin turns crisp. It works well as a side or even a full meal with toppings.

Basic oven method

Ingredients

  • Large potatoes (Russet or similar work best)
  • Olive oil or butter
  • Salt

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Wash and dry the potatoes well (leave skin on).
  3. Poke holes with a fork a few times so steam can escape.
  4. Rub with oil and salt for a crispy skin.
  5. Bake directly on the oven rack or tray for 45–60 minutes, depending on size.
  6. Check doneness by inserting a knife—it should slide in easily.
  7. Rest for a few minutes, then slice open and fluff the inside with a fork.
