Posted on April 23, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and creative DIY way to make cornstarch “glass-like” floral hearts & flowers—they end up looking like frosted translucent decorations, great for hanging or gifting.

🌸 DIY Cornstarch “Glass” Hearts & Flowers

🧾 Materials

  • Cornstarch (Cornstarch)
  • White glue (PVA glue)
  • Warm water
  • Food coloring or acrylic paint (optional)
  • Plastic sheet / baking sheet / parchment paper
  • Heart and flower cookie cutters (or cardboard stencils)
  • Straw or skewer (for holes if hanging)
  • Rolling pin or spoon

🧪 Basic Mixture

  1. Mix:
    • 1 cup cornstarch
    • 1 cup white glue
    • 2–3 tbsp warm water (add slowly)
  2. Stir until it forms a soft dough or thick paste.
    • If too sticky → add cornstarch
    • If too dry → add a few drops water

🌈 Add color (optional)

  • Add a few drops of food coloring or paint
  • Or leave it white for a “frosted glass” look

💗 Shape hearts & flowers

  1. Roll dough to about 0.5–1 cm thickness
  2. Cut shapes using cookie cutters or stencils:
    • Hearts ❤️
    • Flowers 🌼🌸
  3. Smooth edges with fingers or a wet spoon

✨ Add details

  • Press small floral imprints, lace, or leaves into the surface
  • Use a straw to make holes if you want to hang them

🧊 Drying

  • Place on parchment paper
  • Let air dry 24–72 hours (depends on thickness)
  • Flip halfway through for even drying

They will dry:

  • Hard
  • Slightly translucent (“glass-like” effect)
  • Lightweight

🎀 Finishing ideas

  • Paint edges with gold or silver
  • Add glitter before drying
  • String them into garlands
  • Use as window hangings or gift tags

⚠️ Tips

  • Don’t make them too thick or they may crack while drying
  • Keep them away from moisture after drying
  • Thin pieces give the best “glass” look
