Carrot and potato mash is a simple, comforting side dish—naturally a bit sweet from carrots and creamy from potatoes. It goes really well with fried chicken, grilled meat, or even just a fried egg.

🧂 Ingredients

  • 3 medium potatoes (peeled and chopped)
  • 2 large carrots (peeled and chopped)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¼–½ cup milk (adjust for creaminess)
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: ½ tsp garlic powder or a minced garlic clove
  • Optional: pinch of nutmeg or cumin for extra flavor

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Boil the vegetables

  • Add potatoes and carrots to a pot of salted water
  • Boil until both are very soft (about 15–20 minutes)
  • Drain well

2. Mash

  • Mash potatoes and carrots together using a masher
  • Do it while still hot for a smoother texture

3. Make it creamy

  • Add butter and mix until melted
  • Slowly add milk until you reach desired creaminess
  • Season with salt and black pepper
  • Add garlic powder or spices if using

4. Finish

  • Mix well and taste
  • Adjust seasoning if needed
  • Serve warm
