🧀🍔 Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole (Comfort Food Bake)

A rich, creamy, cheesy layered casserole with seasoned ground beef, tender potatoes, and a golden baked top.


🧾 Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef (minced beef)
  • 4–5 medium potatoes (thinly sliced)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2–3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1 cup milk or cooking cream
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil
  • 2 tbsp flour (optional, for thicker sauce)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1–1½ tsp salt (to taste)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning or oregano
  • Optional: ½ cup cream of mushroom soup (for extra creaminess)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Cook the beef

  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Add onion and garlic, sauté until soft
  • Add ground beef, cook until browned
  • Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and herbs
  • Drain excess fat if needed

2. Prepare sauce (optional but recommended)

  • Add butter in the same pan
  • Stir in flour (cook 1 minute)
  • Slowly add milk/cream, stirring until slightly thick
  • Mix into beef (or skip if using mushroom soup)

3. Layer the casserole
In a greased baking dish:

  1. Layer sliced potatoes
  2. Add half the beef mixture
  3. Sprinkle cheese
  4. Repeat layers (potatoes → beef → cheese)

Top layer should be potatoes + cheese


4. Bake

  • Cover with foil and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 40 minutes
  • Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbly

5. Rest & serve

  • Let it sit for 10 minutes before cutting
  • Helps it set and makes slicing easier

  • Slice potatoes thin so they cook evenly
  • Add a little cream between layers for extra richness
  • Don’t skip resting time—it improves texture
  • Use cheddar for stronger flavor, mozzarella for stretch
