Crockpot meatballs and potatoes

🍝 Crockpot Meatballs and Potatoes (Easy, Comforting Slow Cooker Meal)

A hands-off dish where meatballs become tender and flavorful while potatoes soak up all the sauce.


🧾 Ingredients

For meatballs (or use frozen to save time):

  • 500g minced beef (or beef + lamb)
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • 1 small onion (finely grated or chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning or oregano
  • 2 tbsp parsley (optional)

For the crockpot:

  • 500–700g baby potatoes (halved if large)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 2 cups tomato sauce or passata
  • 1 cup beef broth or water
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make meatballs

  • Mix all meatball ingredients gently
  • Roll into small balls (bite-sized works best)

(Shortcut: you can use frozen pre-made meatballs instead.)


2. Layer in crockpot

  • Add potatoes at the bottom
  • Add sliced onion
  • Place meatballs on top

3. Add sauce

  • Mix tomato sauce, broth, tomato paste, spices, and olive oil
  • Pour evenly over everything

4. Cook

  • LOW: 6–7 hours
  • HIGH: 3–4 hours
    Cook until potatoes are tender and meatballs are fully cooked.

5. Finish

  • Taste and adjust salt/pepper
  • Optional: sprinkle cheese or fresh parsley before serving

🔥 Tips for best results

  • Don’t overpack the crockpot—heat needs to circulate
  • Baby potatoes work best (they hold shape better)
  • For thicker sauce, remove lid for last 20–30 minutes
  • Browning meatballs first adds extra flavor (optional step)

🍽️ Serving ideas

  • With crusty bread
  • Over rice or pasta
  • With a side salad
  • Topped with parmesan cheese
